Rio Recap, 2021: Tour Day

RIO DE JANEIRO — Short-term missions is all about serving our partner’s agenda, and coming alongside. That usually means working hard. It is super satisfying, but often consecutive, long days of work too. That’s why we always schedule a rest day somewhere in the middle of our trips just for sightseeing and soaking up the culture.
Friday, July 9, 2021 was that day for our team of seven from the U.S. and another three from Rio, as we set out for Pão de Açúcar (Sugar Loaf Mountain), a popular cable car attraction that carried us up to the observation deck at 1,300 feet above the city.
To our left we could see Copacabana Beach. Panning from left to right we could see Botafogo, Flamengo and finally Centro (downtown). In the distance, in the center of our view, up in the clouds, we could see the famous Christ the Redeemer statue.
Missions is so not about us, but we wanted to include these images here so you can see what your Tour Day might include when you decide to come to Rio with us. Our partnership with Pastor Joe Souza, and the Celebration Church Planting Network is just getting started. We have multiple initiatives already underway and a July trip already in the works for 2022.
We hope you can use this video and all the pics to help you pray for our work in this beautiful city of nearly seven million people. Please join us in praying that Celebration Church will see a movement of God through church planting in this area over the next many years.
You can help fund our ongoing involvement in this vision. In addition to leading churches and teams to come to Rio to serve, God is opening doors for supporters in the U.S. and beyond to invest prayerfully and financially in this ministry.
